“Listening deeply to another person, listening for God in their life, is a holy endeavor.”
—Susan Rose

You may be in ministry and find yourself flat exhausted—drained from giving to others and unsure how to name what you need. You may be in transition, wrestling with a discernment question, or simply trying to reconnect with your “why.” You may be thriving in some areas and struggling in others, and you need a space to sort it all out honestly.
Spiritual direction is for women in ministry at every age and stage—from early discernment all the way through doctoral work and beyond. If you want to work with someone who understands ministry from the inside, who is a fierce advocate for women in ministry, and who will listen for God with you—this may be what you're looking for.
Spiritual direction is an ongoing relationship where two people sit together in God’s presence. The director and directee listen together to what God is doing in the directee's life. God is the real Director in this sacred space.
Unlike pastoral counseling, coaching, or mentoring, spiritual direction isn't focused on solving problems or setting goals. It's about listening — to your own inner life, and to God's presence in the midst of it.
Sessions are held virtually via Zoom, typically one hour, and scheduled monthly. That said, the work is tailored to what you need. Some clients prefer to meet every other week during a particularly full season. Others work best in a 90-minute format. Flexibility is built in, because your life and ministry don't fit a rigid structure.
For established clients, there are also times when something comes up and you need a conversation sooner. When that happens, Susan makes herself available. If you're reaching out between sessions, something is going on—and that matters.
Women often feel relief in spiritual direction—sometimes immediately. There is something powerful about speaking honestly and openly about your life and ministry, and having someone listen with you for where God is in all of it.
Over time, you develop the skills of discernment—learning to name and trust what you're sensing between sessions. You grow in confidence, not because someone tells you what to do, but because you begin to see yourself and your ministry more clearly. The affirmation of another person, and of God, in who you are as a minister—that's something many women in ministry simply aren't receiving anywhere else.
The goal isn't to patch you up and send you back into the same draining situation. It's to help you move toward thriving—holistically, personally, and professionally. God wants that for you too.
Susan is a Certified Spiritual Director, having completed her training with The Companioning Center in spring of 2022.
